Metro Line 1 Closure in Mexico City

The Mexico City Metro reported that Line 1 will close earlier than usual this Tuesday, April 22. In a statement, the transport system said that the closure will apply from Pantitlán to Balderas, which are the currently active stations of Line 1 of the Metro, pink in color, and that the remodeling work has not yet been completed after almost three years of closure.

Despite the closures, the Mexico City Metro will provide complementary service from the Passenger Transport Network (RTP) to assist passengers with an alternative transport route.

Line 1 of the Mexico City Metro will close this Tuesday, April 22 at 10:00 PM, as part of the modernization efforts of the line, which is the oldest service. Therefore, the last Metro will leave Pantitlán and Balderas respectively at 9:30 PM, meaning that if you arrive at those stations later, you will not make it to the train. The closure will only be for Tuesday, so operations will resume as normal on Wednesday, April 23.

The stations affected by the closures on Line 1 of the Metro for this Tuesday, April 22 are: Pantitlán, connection with lines 5, 9, and A. Zaragoza, Gómez Farías, Boulevard Puerto Aéreo, Balbuena, Moctezuma, San Lázaro, Candelaria, Merced, Pino Suárez, Isabel La Católica, Salto del Agua, and Balderas. It should be noted that there is still no service from Cuauhtémoc to Observatorio due to remodeling in the Metro service.

In light of the closures on Line 1 of the Metro for the night of Tuesday, April 21, the Passenger Transport Network (RTP) will make its units available to users from Balderas to Pantitlán. Additionally, the service that has been operating for months from Balderas to Observatorio will continue to function, allowing you to travel from Pantitlán to Observatorio.

"It is still unknown when Line 1 of the Metro will fully open," which has been closed since July 2022, said the Metro. However, the head of Government, Clara Brugada, announced that this week the opening of a new section will take place, which will be from Cuauhtémoc to Chapultepec. This means that by April 25 at the latest, the stations: Cuauhtémoc, Insurgentes, Sevilla, and Chapultepec will be available. The only stations that will still need to open are Juanacatlán, Tacubaya, and Observatorio.
